The New Year has been both full speed ahead, and slow and steady around here. Still unwinding from an steep and full fall, and a hustled holiday season, I feel like we’re overdue for a true BREAK.

Time isn’t stopping, but I’m steadying, and recipes like this Lemongrass Ginger Broth are everything I need.

Warming the winter

Fall and early winter are the season of vata dosha – when the cold, rough, dry, mobile and subtle qualities run rampant through nature, and through us. When this swirl pushes too hard, we notice that our bodies feel dry, sluggish, stagnant, tired, cold…and less vibrant than we would otherwise like to be. This typically happens because all that swirling extinguishes and reduces agni or digestive function. Incorporating warm, smooth, moist, grounded qualities in our foods, movements and efforts helps to counterbalance this effect, and keeps us feeling, performing and being our best. One of the easiest ways to do this? Keep a little mug of broth nearby.

This Lemongrass Ginger Broth

Works wonders in the cold, rough winter. Gentle, warming, it clears the static and steadies our energies; calming vata, igniting agni and never over heats.

Why it works:

This gorgeous broth is light, refreshing and grounding. It’s a quick recipe is easy to make and even easier to love. I’ve been enjoying it as an unexpected morning wake up – in the place some might put bone broth –  and as a daily sipper when I’m working, running errands or just need something warming in hand as I navigate these winter days. Broth for breakfast?

For those of us waking between the hours of 6-10am, we’re rising during the kapha time of day. Our systems have been resting all night, allowing our bodily processes to digest and reset, and this incredible system deserves a gentle, warm start.
